Hawkins’ Fourth-Quarter Dash Sparks Nordhoff Rally, 42-24

Jessie Hawkins’ 50-yard touchdown run highlighted a 21-point fourth quarter for Nordhoff High in a 42-24 victory over Calabasas on Friday night at Nordhoff.

The Rangers (7-2, 3-0 in league play) clinched at least a tie for their second consecutive Frontier League championship.

Hawkins rushed for 181 yards in 21 carries and Bret Ferrante added 38 yards rushing and three touchdowns in seven carries for the Rangers.

Ferrante’s 15-yard touchdown put the game out of reach, 35-24, with 4:44 remaining.

Ferrante’s eight-yard touchdown with 38 seconds left in the third quarter pulled Nordhoff to within 24-21 and signaled trouble for Calabasas (3-6, 2-2), which allowed 28 unanswered points.

The Coyotes scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 24-14 lead.

Michael Armacost rushed for 166 yards in 25 carries for Calabasas.

Scott Drew of Nordhoff had seven catches for 199 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown play from John Hill that tied the game, 7-7, with 2:27 left in the first quarter.
