BASKETBALL
* Former Grant High guard Gilbert Arenas, a freshman at Arizona, scored a team-leading 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds Sunday in the Wildcats’ 96-44 exhibition victory over a Lithuanian team.
Earlier in the week, Arenas scored 22 points and had eight rebounds in a Red-Blue scrimmage. He has moved ahead of former Bell-Jeff guard Ruben Douglas into Arizona’s starting lineup.
AUTO RACING
* Corey Kruseman of Ventura placed second to J.J. Yeley in a 40-lap Sprint Car Racing Assn. main event at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix on Saturday night.
Kruseman placed eighth in a 20-lap main event Friday night at Manzanita that was also won by Yeley.
