Angels Play Yankees in 2000 Opener

The Angels begin the 2000 season against the two-time defending champion New York Yankees, who swept the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves in the past two World Series.

It’s the third time the Angels have opened the season against the Yankees. They began the 1968 season at Yankee Stadium and the Yankees played the first regular-season series at the remodeled Edison Field in 1998. They will be in town for a three-game series beginning April 3.

The Boston Red Sox follow for three games beginning April 7 and the Toronto Blue Jays round out the Angels’ nine-game homestand.

After a 10-game trip to Chicago, Toronto and Tampa Bay, the Angels close out April with seven games against Detroit and Tampa Bay, beginning April 24.

The Angels host the Dodgers June 2-4, then play at Dodger Stadium July 13-15.

The exhibition season begins March 1 against Arizona State at the Angels’ spring training facility at Diablo Stadium in Tempe. The first game at Edison Field is March 31, an exhibition against the Padres.
