The Audience Waits

Share

I agree with Richard Cromelin that Annie Lennox was “dynamic” in her reunion performance with Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart (“Who’s That Riveting Girl?” Nov. 6).

However, he failed to mention the two hours a packed audience waited to see them. First, the doors didn’t open until 30 minutes before the scheduled time of the performance. Then we sat for an hour before the opening act, Meredith Brooks, came on. After 40 minutes of her incomprehensible noise, there was an intermission that lasted until almost 10 o’clock. Finally, the audience, having exhausted its patience, began to clap and stamp to alert the management we wanted the show to begin.

We still loved Annie and Dave, but why put the audience through this torture?

Cromelin referred to Lennox and Stewart as an “English” duo. Lennox, of course, is a Scot, born and raised (the last name itself an old and famous one), and certainly talks proudly of. A better and certainly more accurate statement would be “British,” though this often is interpreted to mean English, and many Scots prefer not to be called by this either.

In any event, it was nice to see a piece on two of my favorite ‘European” musicians.
