Travis Prentice of Miami of Ohio scored the 72nd rushing touchdown of his career in a 40-28 loss to Ohio, matching the Division I-A record set last season by Ricky Williams at Texas. It was the 34th game in which Prentice has scored a touchdown, surpassing Williams’ record of 33.

Tim Rattay of Louisiana Tech moved into second place on the all-time major college passing yardage list, passing for 466 yards in a 41-20 victory over Alabama Birmingham to run his career total to 12,341. He passed Louisville’s Chris Redman and trails only Brigham Young’s Ty Detmer, who passed for 15,031 yards in four major college seasons. Rattay, who closes his season Nov. 26 against USC at the Coliseum, has played only three.

In its final game in the Cotton Bowl, Southern Methodist defeated Cal State Northridge, 58-16, before a crowd of about 3,000. The Mustangs will play in a $56.8-million on-campus stadium next season.
