Woods Falters as Campbell Ends Drought

Tiger Woods is human.

With his four-tournament winning streak on the line, Woods struggled Sunday and finished sixth at the Johnnie Walker Classic at Ta Shee, Taiwan.

New Zealand’s Michael Campbell, who hadn’t won since 1995, closed with a two-under-par 70 for a 12-under 276 and one-stroke victory over Geoff Ogilvy of Australia.

“Tiger, he’s a freak of nature,” Campbell said. “The only way we can defeat Tiger is for him to make mistakes.”

Woods did just that Sunday. He entered the day four strokes off the pace and finished five strokes behind in the $1.3-million event, which is not part of the PGA Tour.

Woods, who closed with a 71 for a 281, hooked his drive on the sixth hole into the rough and down a gully beside a hedge, forcing him to take a penalty stroke for an unplayable lie. On the eighth hole, he drove into the rough, hit his recovery shot into the water and took three putts for a triple bogey.

Larry Nelson won two of the first four holes and cruised to a 3 and 2 victory over Tom Jenkins in the Senior Match Play Challenge at Dorado, Puerto Rico, winning $240,000 in the process.
