John Stockton was the hero Monday night, ending a San Antonio Spur rally late as the Utah Jazz defeated the defending champions.

Stockton scored 20 points and led the Jazz down the stretch as Utah defeated San Antonio, 91-85, at Salt Lake City, handing the Spurs their second loss in eight games.

When the Spurs cut their deficit to 84-81 after holding Utah scoreless for almost three minutes, Stockton drove the left side of the lane, slicing past three defenders for a layup to clinch it with 1:33 to play.

“They were giving him shots and he stepped up and made them,” Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan said. “That was the biggest thing. They were making John take shots so we wouldn’t be able to get anything inside.”

Indiana 96, Houston 87--Al Harrington scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Pacers rallied for a victory that kept the Rockets winless in five home games. Charles Barkley had 24 rebounds.

Seattle 100, New Jersey 92--Vin Baker and Vernon Maxwell scored 21 points apiece as the SuperSonics won at East Rutherford, N.J., handing the Nets their sixth loss in seven games.
