American Honda Motor Co. has brought back the race-tuned Acura Integra Type R after a one-year absence from the U.S. market. The car, in yellow or black (the original Championship White color scheme has been retired), began shipping to dealers last week. Acura expects to sell about 750 of the $24,350 high-performance models in the coming year. The Type R is a factory-tuned version of the hot-rod Acuras that Southern California performance shops have churned out for several years. It features a four-cylinder, 195-horsepower VTEC engine, a close-ratio five-speed transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The average price of gasoline in Southern California declined for a third straight month, dropping 5.4 cents to $1.359 for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. The club’s monthly Fuel Gauge Report, released Tuesday, is based on a survey of 2,800 gas stations.
