Bruin fans, take note:

National championships: USC 8, UCLA 1.

Heisman Trophy winners: USC 4, UCLA 1.

Series victories: USC 34, UCLA 27.

Your eight consecutive victories seem a little less impressive now, don’t they?

Should the Trojans defeat an injury-depleted Bruin team, USC football teams will have won only two out of 10 games against UCLA this decade. Even at USC, two out of 10 is still a failing grade. Now I know why Trojan fans are always talking about the distant past.

I’ll be short and sweet.

I hate UCLA.

Hackett, get this team a victory and make all things right again.

I was appalled to read your Nov. 17 story on UCLA receiver Danny Farmer. The writer implied that since Farmer has had a subpar season, he would have been better off going into the NFL draft last season.

Since when have journalists started criticizing college kids for staying in school? Farmer should be applauded for his decision to finish school and maybe have a little fun playing football and volleyball in the process.

Your Nov. 18 article about John Fox is a terrific reminder of what college sports should really be about. As a Trojan who has been disappointed many times, I can honestly say that the rise of Troy as an academic institution over the past 20 years gives me as much pride as athletic success. Maybe not bragging rights on fall Saturdays, but it is where our priorities have to be.

I don’t want to say that the USC-UCLA game has lost some of its luster, but I’d bet that if Giles Pellerin were alive, he’d be thinking about a movie instead of heading to the Coliseum.
