La Verne Bonita 57, University 21--DeAndre Belin rushed for 268 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Bearcats.

Belin, who rushed for 1,426 yards and 24 touchdowns in the regular season, was virtually unstoppable. The 6-2, 230-pound running back scored on touchdown runs of 76 and 45 yards in the first half.

Belin accounted for 225 of the Bearcats’ 270 yards in the first half.

University (4-7) took the opening kickoff and scored three plays later to take a 7-0 lead.

Jacque Newsome raced 46 yards for a touchdown. However the Trojans’ lead was short-lived. Two plays after Newsome’s touchdown, Belin broke off a 70-yard run to the University 10-yard line.

After a Bonita penalty, quarterback Shaun Abkarian followed with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Damien Randles to tie the score at 7-7.

Bonita (11-0) scored on its next five possessions and forced three University turnovers to take a commanding 36-7 lead at halftime. After the Trojans’ first possession, University was unable to score until late in the third quarter. Pat Josten threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Colin Cavanaugh. Minutes later, the pair connected on a 44-yard scoring play.

Josten finished the game with 243 yards passing and two touchdowns. Cavanaugh had three catches for 140 yards, and teammate Kevin Conlin had six catches for 78 yards.
