Fair Trade

* Our negotiators for the WTO talks with China (Nov. 18) did a good job in opening trade doors to some of our industries. However, the same cannot be said for the tariff negotiations. We are suckers again!

They agreed that China could charge us from something under 15% on agricultural products to others going as high as 25% on autos and auto parts. We only charge them up to 5% on all their goods flooding our markets.

When are we going to demand that both sides of any trade agreement have “free” and equal tariffs? Then we could change the meaning of MFN from Most Favored Nation to Most Fair Nation trade status. Now we are paying for a one-sided agreement, if we buy their goods.
