Bulgarian Visit
Security and economic interests of the United States would have been better served if President Clinton had visited India, Pakistan, China, North Korea, or even Cuba, instead of wasting his time and taxpayers’ money attempting to “make history” in politically insignificant Bulgaria (Nov. 23).

Has anybody noticed the little contradiction in President Clinton’s speech in Bulgaria? On the one hand he patted the Bulgarians on the head for having become a democracy. Then he thanked the Bulgarian government for supporting the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, even though the policy was opposed by the majority of Bulgarians. What kind of “democracy” is that? American-style, I guess. Bulgaria is now “free” to become another of our vassal states.
