Start-up Tahoe Air, which began service in June to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., from Los Angeles and San Jose, has ended the flights, its parent corporation, Tahoe Pacific Corp., announced last week. The parent corporation did not have details, and Tahoe Air officials did not return calls for comment. . . . The upper tier of the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, Italy, whose vaulted ceiling collapsed during earthquakes in September 1997, was to reopen today, although its renowned frescoes are not yet fully restored. . . . The $25-million New Year’s Eve “Party of the Century” at New York City’s Javits Convention Center, featuring Aretha Franklin, Enrique Iglesias and Tom Jones, among others, has been canceled, the New York Daily News reported. Lackluster sales of high-price tickets were blamed. Producer Steve Leber was quoted as saying he will refund tickets.
