Pepperdine 67, Colorado State 57--Nick Sheppard scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to lead the Waves over the Rams in the consolation game of the Sparkletts Invitational at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Pepperdine (3-1) pulled away from a 35-35 tie with 12:12 left in the game and led, 47-40, after Sheppard made a jumper with 8:24 left. Pepperdine led by as many as 19 points before Colorado closed it to 10 at the end of the game.
Colorado State (1-2) got 16 points from Ceedric Goodwyn and 14 from Andy Birley.
Pepperdine played before a small home crowd of 600 in the penultimate game of the four-team tournament.
Brandon Armstrong also scored 15 points for Pepperdine, converting seven of 13 field goals and one of four free throws.
The Waves, who captured third-place with the win, shot 48.3% from the field and had 32 rebounds to 28 for Colorado State.
