Series at Pond Ends Tonight
The Arrowhead Pond will end its Monday night fight card series after four years tonight with a junior welterweight bout between undefeated Luis Perez of Montebello and Pat Thorns of Detroit. The 12-round main event will decide the World Boxing Hall of Fame junior welterweight tournament champion.
Perez (15-0-1, 11 knockouts), a 26-year-old former Puerto Rican Olympian, is on a five-match winning streak. Thorns, 30, is 22-4-1 with 14 knockouts. In April, he lost a 12-round decision to Ahmed Santos for the North American Boxing Federation title.
In the co-main event, North American Federation champion Mauricio Martinez (15-3-1, 10 knockouts) of Brooklyn will face Guadalupe Gastelum (16-6-2, 13 knockouts) of Mexico in a 10-round non-title bout. The undercard begins at 7:15 p.m. The main event is scheduled to start at 9.
