A 32-year-old warehouse foreman was killed early Friday when a large boxcar door apparently slid off its support and crushed him, authorities said.

Michael Lesco of Fullerton was nearing the end of his shift at Servicecraft Distribution Systems in Buena Park and had finished unloading goods when the accident happened shortly after midnight, said Lt. Robert Gonzales of the Buena Park Police Department.

Co-workers at the site in the 4700 block of Artesia Boulevard used a forklift to try to lift the door but were unsuccessful, authorities said. Paramedics finally freed Lesco and took him to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:51 a.m.

Lesco was a team leader for Servicecraft, a Buena Park-based warehousing and distribution company that deals in grocery and paper products.

John Monson, executive vice president for the distributor, said Lesco had been with the company for about 1 1/2 years. At the time of the accident, Monson said, Lesco was securing the boxcar so it could go to its next destination.

The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
