New iMac Raises Apple’s Shares

Apple Computer Inc. shares rose on expectations for new iMac personal computers that several analysts said the company would be introduced today when interim Chief Executive Steve Jobs holds a news conference at the company’s headquarters. Rhona Hamilton, a spokeswoman for Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., declined to comment on the company’s plans or on the recent rumors and speculation. Analysts speculated that one of the new iMacs will be priced under $1,000. Apple’s shares gained $2.84, or 4.6%, to close at $64.56 on the Nasdaq.
