The Leisure World Ad Hoc Name Change Committee is faced with a problem that it wouldn’t have had five years ago: All the good names are already taken on the World Wide Web.

The governing body of the gated retirement community decided to change its name earlier this year when it ran into copyright conflicts with two newer Leisure Worlds in Maryland and Virginia.

The name change committee was formed last month to take on the task of finding a unique and preferably unused name for the community. The committee narrowed a list of 247 possible names submitted by people living in the community to 40 possibilities, said Isabel Muennichow, chair of the committee.

But 35 of those names were already registered as addresses, with a “dot com” or “dot org” suffix.
