Event to Spotlight Disabled Equestrians

Disabled horseback riders will strut their skills Saturday at an open house and cowboy carnival on the Broken Tree Ranch.

“We want to let the community know what we’re doing and where we are,” said Gloria Hamblin, program director for Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship, a nonprofit group.

About 15 disabled children and young adults in the program will demonstrate how they mount their horses and navigate obstacle courses, Hamblin said.

“Riders will get to show off skills they have been working on for a year,” she said. “The open house will let people see that kids with disabilities have a lot of abilities too.”

Proceeds from games and a raffle will benefit disabled horse riders.

Admission is free to the open house, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ranch, 21126 Chatsworth St.
