5 Germans Held in Attack on U.S. Troops
German authorities here arrested five suspects Friday in an attack last month on U.S. soldiers that was believed to have been motivated by anti-foreigner sentiment.
Four of the suspects already were named in arrest warrants for similar offenses, police said. During questioning, the suspects--ages 21 to 25--expressed right-wing statements but are not members of a specific gang, prosecutor Gerd Schnittcher said.
The assailants had shouted, “Sieg Heil!” just before the attack in the northern town of Prenzlau.
The Americans, members of a U.S. military band based in Bamberg, had performed at a concert the night of the September attack.
One soldier suffered a broken nose, and the others received scratches and bruises.
