Migrant Boat Sinks Off Guatemala; 5 Killed
A boat filled with illegal Chinese immigrants sank in bad weather Saturday off the Guatemalan coast, killing five people among the 43 aboard, authorities said.
The shipwreck occurred in the Pacific Ocean off Chiquimulilla, 50 miles south of Guatemala City.
It was unclear where the boat was coming from, but Guatemalan immigration spokeswoman Sonia Ortiz said it was believed that the immigrants were headed to Mexico and planned to continue by land from there to the United States.
Two of those rescued were treated for injuries.
Ortiz said the survivors would be deported.
