New Compaq Telecom Unit

Compaq Computer Corp. said it formed a new telecommunications unit as part of the company’s bid to lessen its dependence on the personal computer market. Telecom operations will be reorganized under the unit, which will be based in the “Telecom Corridor” in suburban Dallas. Larry S. Schwartz, previously general manager of Compaq Telecom Network Solutions, will be the new group’s general manager. Compaq shares rose 13 cents to close at $21.88 on the New York Stock Exchange.
