Stirring Vigorously

Hundreds of French chefs went on a rampage Monday, throwing eggs and injuring seven police officers in protest of tax policies that favor fast-food outlets over full-service restaurants, the Associated Press reported. The rebellion was put down with tear gas. The demonstrators, some wearing toques, had gathered in front of parliament when their protest degenerated into a messy egg-throwing battle with police. The French charge restaurateurs more than 20% in value-added tax, as opposed to less than 6% for fast-food outlets.
