Texas Gov. George W. Bush has increased the number of Latino appointments to state government since becoming a presidential candidate this year, the Dallas Morning News said. Bush, front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, named an average of 76 Latino appointees a year to state boards, commissions and the judiciary during his first term as governor from 1995 to 1998, the newspaper said. “So far this year, he has named 106 Hispanics, a 39% increase,” the paper said, citing its own research into state figures. Since starting his presidential campaign this year, Bush has been making a strong play for the Latino vote.
