Touring with Wild Women

Share

Have a yen to trek Mongolia? Hack your way through the Amazon? Then Wild Women Adventures, despite the name, is definitely not for you. This boutique tour company, based in Sebastopol, Calif., caters to women whose idea of adventure doesn’t include roughing it. “We have a Sissy-O-Meter for judging trips, and we try to stay in the charming-and-comfy range,” says Carol Rivendell, WWA’s “Queen Executive Officer.”

Rivendell, a psychotherapist, and Martha Lindt, a longtime travel agent, formed the company almost six years ago because they knew a lot of women who were ready to travel. But none wanted to travel alone, or be the only solo gal on a tour full of couples.

Most tours make a base of one location, so travelers only have to unpack once. “We want to make people feel like visitors to a country, not tourists,” says Rivendell.
