Hackers

Despite a yearlong effort, the FBI and the Defense Department have been unable to stop or identify the hackers who are breaking into supposedly super-secure Pentagon databases (Oct. 7).

The simplest way to handle this would be to post small announcements inside the most heavily guarded data areas: “Congratulations! If you’ve gotten far enough to read this, you could be living in California and making $120,000 per year!” They should be followed by the phone number of any software recruiter. A computer whiz capable of this level of hacking is worth roughly his or her weight in platinum. Compare some photos of daily life in contemporary Russia with what you see around you. They’d be scrambling all over themselves to accept such an offer. And we’d be lucky to get them.
