Baca to Shuffle His Command Staff

Preparing to embark on his second year in office, Sheriff Lee Baca said this week that he plans to shuffle around his command staff after Undersheriff Paul Myron retires next year.

Baca informed the troops that he intends to promote Assistant Sheriff William T. Stonich to Myron’s job in February.

One of two assistant sheriffs, Stonich is in charge of the department’s vast patrol operation. Assistant Sheriff Larry Waldie--who oversees jail operations--will take over Stonich’s duties.

Stonich and Waldie were among the few department commanders who publicly supported Baca in his election bid against then-Sheriff Sherman Block, who died just days before last November’s election.

Chief Dennis Dahlman will be promoted to assistant sheriff, taking over Waldie’s duties, Baca said in a Teletype to the troops. Cmdr. Taylor K. Moorehead will take over Dahlman’s job as chief of custody.

Myron said that he pledged to Baca--who took office last December--that he would serve as his undersheriff for a year.
