Grant to Aid Library, Recycling Project
The proposed Lake View Terrace Library and Environmental Awareness Center project moved closer to a groundbreaking Wednesday when a state agency announced a $250,000 grant toward construction.
The grant was awarded by the California Integrated Waste Management Board as part of a program to promote the use of recycled building products, according to Sue Gold, a spokeswoman for state Sen. Richard Alarcon (D-Sylmar).
“Overall, the project will be a model of sustainable building practices for all to use and see,” Alarcon said in a letter to the state agency.
Gold said the project is still about $1 million shy of the $3.5 million needed, but supporters are continuing to seek other sources of funding.
