‘Babydol’ Case Will Go to Trial
Despite a spirited defense, alleged high-priced madam Jody “Babydol” Gibson will have to face trial on charges of pimping and pandering, a judge ruled Wednesday.
During the hearing, which stretched over a month, prosecutors relied principally on the testimony of two undercover officers, one of whom had posed as a client and one as a prostitute, to show that Gibson was running an illegal escort service called California Dreamin’.
Defense lawyer Gerald Scotti complained that Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard F. Walmark did not prove any specific sex acts were performed on Gibson’s orders and asked that the charges be thrown out.
Municipal Court Judge Gregg Marcus said he found enough evidence to allow the 12-count case to go to trial. If convicted, Gibson faces about 20 years in prison.
