The Planning Commission agreed Tuesday to recommend that the City Council vote in favor of Homeplace Retirement Communities of America’s plan to build an upscale retirement community near Rose Drive and Alta Vista Street.

The project will feature more than 300 units for independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing.

Homeplace Chairman and CEO Stephen Taylor said the cost to live in the facility would run between $160,000 and $350,000.

Commission Chairman Marv Reid objected to the four-story height of one of the project’s buildings. The commission recommended that the structure be scaled down.
