Gore, Bradley Not Much of a TV Draw
The town meeting Wednesday night between the Democratic presidential candidates, former Sen. Bill Bradley and Vice President Al Gore, attracted an estimated 1.6 million television viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
By comparison, 25.6 million people tuned in to the fourth and decisive game of the World Series and 14.8 million watched NBC’s pregame coverage, which aired at the same time that CNN carried the hourlong New Hampshire forum.
Nielsen’s figures reflect the average number of people watching a program at any one time.
Other shows that aired in the East during the town meeting also attracted larger audiences. According to Nielsen, ABC’s “Two Guys and a Girl” was the third-most-popular program of the night with 10.2 million viewers; CBS’ “Cosby” drew 8.7 million, Fox’s “Beverly Hills 90210” 7.8 million and WB’s “Dawson’s Creek” pulled in an average 4.3 million viewers.
