Croatian President Franjo Tudjman is not the subject of a sealed U.N. indictment for war crimes, the international criminal tribunal in the Hague said. Prosecution spokesman Paul Risley was confirming comments attributed to deputy prosecutor Graham Blewitt by a Croatian newspaper earlier this week. “The deputy prosecutor told a Croatian reporter that Mr. Tudjman is not under a sealed indictment presently,” Risley said. Speculation had been rife in Croatia that U.N. prosecutors had set their sights on Tudjman for his alleged role in the fighting that accompanied the breakup of the former Yugoslav federation.
