The Assistance League of Southern California needs docents to give tours at Design House, an estate in Hancock Park open to the public in October. Training will be provided Sept. 23 at 9:30 a.m. at the house. For more information, call (323) 469-1973, Ext. 417.

The American Red Cross needs licensed nurses for its influenza immunization program for senior citizens in the fall. A free training class will be held Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Red Cross office boardroom, 2700 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Call (213) 739-6813 to register for training.

The Los Angeles Public Library needs guides to lead children, teen and adult tours at the Central Library. Training starts in October, and an open house meeting is Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at the library, 630 W. 5th St. Call (213) 228-7168.

TrinityCare Hospice in Van Nuys needs volunteers to provide patient care, family relief, grief counseling and office help. Participants also take pets to visit patients and play musical instruments for them. Training is in late September. Call Lianne Casselman at (818) 785-1800.

Organization for the Needs of the Elderly needs people to help with programs for children and seniors. Volunteers are also needed Sunday mornings at the Encino Farmers Market to sell books, greet patrons, help farmers and direct parking-lot traffic. Call Joyce Megna at (818) 705-2345.

The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California needs tutors and mentors for the Kindergarten Intervention Program, which helps students in kindergarten through third grade who have academic, social or emotional problems. People to teach woodworking and ceramics classes are needed at the Erikson Center, a residential treatment program for emotionally disabled adults. Call Joan Kagan at (818) 908-5128.

The Child and Family Guidance Center needs English- and Spanish-speaking therapist aides, classroom aides and office help. Participants should volunteer three hours a week for at least six months at the center at 9650 Zelzah Ave., Northridge. Training is provided. Call (818) 993-9311, Ext. 319.

Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar is looking for people to raise future guide dogs. Volunteers raise 2-month-old puppies in their homes, teaching them obedience and taking them wherever they go. When the dogs are about 18 months old, the volunteers return the canines to Guide Dogs to begin training. Call (818) 362-5834.
