Gunmen Steal $500,000 From Armored Truck
Two masked men wearing black clothes and carrying handguns hijacked an armored truck Friday at Sherman Way and Orion Avenue, fleeing with nearly $500,000, police said.
The thieves stuffed the cash into canvas bags and ran through an alley near Odessa Avenue and Victory Boulevard, said Officer Guillermo Campos, an Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. The men may have then fled in a white minivan, police said.
No shots were fired in the 10:45 a.m. heist and neither of the two Armored Transport Inc. security guards was injured, Campos said. No further details were available.
LAPD Robbery/Homicide detectives were investigating the incident late Friday and were asking for the public’s help.
