John Penner isn’t ready to throw in the towel.

The real estate appraiser still hopes to save the city’s last orange grove on the historic Brower estate by bringing in a Fortune 500 company to sponsor Placentia.

“It’s not over yet,” Penner wrote in a newsletter mailed to about 300 residents in the city who signed a petition to save the orange groves and preserve the estate.

Penner is the founder of Preserve Our Past, a group committed to converting the historic Brower estate and orange grove into a historical site.

The Brower estate, a 3.6-acre ranch dating back to the 1860s, has been the center of controversy between city officials and longtime residents of Placentia who want to see the site preserved. The city voted last month to allow a developer to tear down the estate and replace it with 16 single-family homes.
