Admission Day
* California Admission Day was Sept. 9. For some unknown reason, this day has not been acknowledged for many years. It used to be a state holiday with celebrations, parades, etc. Some state legislators are even ignorant of the date.
It’s a shame that one of the greatest states in the union doesn’t do something to celebrate its birthday. This year is No. 149; next year will be the sesquicentennial. I hope The Times will help me remedy this oversight. I write this as a third-generation native who also shares the state’s birthday.
