ChildrenFirst, the nation’s largest developer and operator of so-called “backup” child-care facilities, said Thursday it will build Orange County’s first such child-care center, in the Irvine Business Complex.

The Boston-based firm plans to spend about $750,000 to build the center at 2010 Main St. It will be a place to which parents can turn when their regular child-care arrangements are not available.

Construction is expected to begin this fall. The 5,300-square-foot center will be able to accommodate 50 children per day and will have up to 10 employees. The center will serve up to 15 area businesses, including Taco Bell Corp.
