Latino League Forms Local Chapter

Share

A Ventura County chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens has been formed and is accepting members.

The group came together after the statewide chapter decided last week to look into hiring practices in Santa Paula, where the federal government is pushing for improved Latino access to the political process.

But local group spokeswoman Cyndy Zakrajshek-Smith said the group’s goals will not be limited to Santa Paula. In addition to politics, issues will include how to improve education for Latino children and how to thwart gang violence.

Membership is not limited to Latinos, Zakrajshek-Smith said.

She expects the group to meet within the next month to elect a chapter president and board of directors.
