Hey, He Can Always Go Back

After reading E. D. Maytum’s scathing evaluation of the desert (“Surfing the Sand Wave,” Aug. 15), I agree that he needs an evacuation route. His snobbish insults were shallow and whiny. He should catch the next wave back to his Rhode Island reality and smother his paranoia in tweed.

As a relatively new Palm Desert resident, I continue to be impressed that, on what Maytum refers to as the “blank canvas” of the desert, a portrait of a progressive, citizen-oriented community is being painted. Perhaps Maytum, who doesn’t see it that way, should go back where his canvas is likely to remain blank.
