Jewish Big Brothers of Los Angeles needs mentors for its “Sports Buddies” program. Beginning Sunday, groups of children will be matched with mentors who will teach the kids about noncompetitive sports during four-hour sessions at Camp Max Straus in Glendale. Call (323) 761-8675.

The National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles needs counselors for its Talkline. Starting Oct. 2, participants will receive 54 hours of training on poverty, domestic violence, depression, suicide and counseling skills. Call (323) 655-3807.

The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California is seeking people to do administrative work for the North East Valley Urban Village in Pacoima, which organizes community projects.

Volunteers are also needed to teach arts, crafts and exercises to disabled kids at the Crippled Children’s Society in Woodland Hills.

Valley elementary schools need tutors for first- through third-graders weekday mornings at Coldwater Canyon Elementary in North Hollywood and Cohasset Street Elementary, Erwin Street Elementary and Kittridge Street Elementary in Van Nuys. Training will be provided.

Mentors are needed to commit one hour a week during school hours at Mulholland Middle School in Van Nuys. Wilbur Avenue Elementary in Tarzana is seeking an artist to complete a 150-by-3-foot marine life mural. Call Joan Kagan at (818) 908-5128.

The East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center needs volunteers for its office and departments of nutrition and immigration and citizenship. People are also needed to teach classes on navigating the Internet, painting, drawing, arts and crafts, exercise and quilting.
