Kenneth Starr

Re “Starr Admits Blunders in Clinton-Lewinsky Inquiry,” Sept. 16: Oh, geesh! Kenneth Starr is just now figuring it all out, huh? How convenient. One would think after seven years and $50-some million he would have “gotten it” sooner! The damage is done. And none of us in this country is any better off because of it.

He will have to live with the fact that he played a significant role in this mess. And he’ll have to accept the contempt that goes with it. How pathetic that his introspection only suggests he “should have put a better spin” on things!

I am astonished to read that an attorney in attendance at the Starr luncheon was surprised by Starr’s modest demeanor. The attorney, who was quoted as saying he expected some kind of clown or madman, apparently never observed Starr during his congressional impeachment testimony or numerous press conferences. If he had, he would have known how Starr presents himself. What is more shocking is that a member of the bar could display such ignorance about the character of one his profession’s most newsworthy figures.
