The City Council will vote tonight on whether to repeal the 6-year-old campaign finance law that sets limits on the amount politicians can receive from individuals and corporations. The current law sets a cap at $1,000 per election.

Councilman Tom Tait expressed support for doing away with the current campaign finance law at last week’s council meeting, saying he does not believe in excessive government.

Councilwoman Shirley McCracken said she feared that eliminating campaign limits would entice businesses to bankroll elections.
