Marina’s Mietkiewicz Sidelined by Wrist Injury

Marina’s Ray Mietkiewicz, who has rushed for 253 yards in two games this season, broke his wrist in Thursday’s 21-21 tie with Newport Harbor and is out indefinitely, Viking Coach Mark Rehling said Monday.

Mietkiewicz, an all-league fullback who rushed for 1,544 yards last season, was hurt during a punt play in the first quarter. He did not alert coaches he was hurt and played the rest of the game.

“We didn’t know until after the game,” Rehling said.

His wrist is in a cast and will be examined on a week-to-week basis.

“It’s a potential season-ending injury,” Rehling said. “It might be a case where the doctors will clear him to play in a soft cast. We don’t know at this point how long he’s going to be out.”

Linebackers Inoke Tukia and Adam Heyward will fill in at fullback, the centerpiece of Marina’s veer offense.
