The public is invited to a grand opening celebration Sunday at Ventura County’s emerging Cal State University campus.

Cal State Northridge and Cal State Channel Islands will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the campus, under development at the former Camarillo State Hospital complex.

The event, called “Celebrate the Move,” marks the transition of CSUN’s off-campus center to the Channel Islands campus. The satellite facility is expected to evolve in two years into an autonomous, degree-granting institution.

The event will feature tours of the renovated Spanish-style buildings that make up the first phase of the new campus. The open house is aimed at introducing local high school and community college students to the university.

“It’s a great opportunity for students and parents to learn more about educational opportunities that await them here in Ventura County,” said Steve Lefevre, director of the local CSUN center.

The campus is on Lewis Road, about three miles west of the Ventura Freeway. Routing signs have been placed at the Las Posas Road and Pleasant Valley Road offramps.

Buses will be available at the Camarillo Metrolink station at Lewis Road and Ventura Boulevard to shuttle visitors to and from the university.
