The Environmental Nature Center’s Save Acres for Nature fund-raising campaign recently received a $200,000 grant from the Steele Foundation.

The grant is the second major campaign contribution from the foundation within the last year. The funds will be used to help the center with expansion and operation, according to Executive Director Bo Glover.

The center launched the Save Acres for Nature campaign last year to fund the expansion of the center through the purchase of a 1-acre parcel of land that fronts the center. Until escrow closes next month the land will remain the property of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

The center is $300,000 shy of reaching its $1-million goal and contributions are still being accepted.
