Parents of the Centralia School District have declared the Kindergarten Jump Start Program a success, but officials have not yet decided if the program will be repeated next year.
At the district’s board meeting Tuesday night, Bobbi Mahler, assistant superintendent of instruction and support services, reported on the two-week program that ran at Glen H. Dysinger Sr., San Marino and Raymond Temple elementary schools.
The pilot program began Aug. 17; its purpose was to introduce children to kindergarten. For two hours a day, they learned what would be expected of them in a classroom setting, appropriate behavior and the academic work they would be doing. Parents were allowed to sit in the back of the classroom.
