Top Corporations See Rising Violence Threat

Fortune 1,000 security directors said workplace violence is the leading threat at their companies, with nearly a third reporting an increase in violence at their firms during the last 12 months, according to a survey by Pinkerton, a Westlake Village-based security company. Nearly 60% said the number of workplace violence incidents has remained stable. Workplace violence was also the No. 1 concern in last year’s survey, but security directors assigned greater importance to it in the 2000 survey, Pinkerton said. Internet and intranet security jumped to second place among security threats in the latest survey, up from seventh place in the 1999 survey.
