Christopher Cary; Character Actor

Christopher Cary, 65, a director and character actor best remembered for the television series “Garrison’s Gorillas.” Born Christopher Bay Carysfort in Surrey, England, Cary first appeared professionally with the Sadlers Wells Ballet Company, but soon switched from dance to acting. He moved to Los Angeles in 1955 to appear in Robert Montgomery’s television anthology of plays. Staying on, Cary appeared as Goniff in the 1967-68 series “Garrison’s Gorillas,” set in World War II. He also appeared in such series as “The Rockford Files” and “The Wizard” and the television movies “The Mask of Sheba,” “Planet Earth” and “Mind Over Murder.” Cary also had roles in several motion pictures, among them “Raid on Rommel,” “The Sword and the Sorcerer,” “Lethal,” “Million Dollar Mystery” and “Rescue Me.” A director as well as an actor, he worked with such stars as Judy Garland, Charlton Heston and Judith Anderson. Recently he had served as the executive director of the Foundation of the Arts for Cultures and the Environment. On Saturday in the Hollywood Hills of cancer.
