EPPS STEPS OUT

Even when faced with a fuchsia feathered fedora, Omar Epps remains unflappable. “Yeah, that seems right up Kid Rock’s alley,” the 26-year-old actor quips. “I’m more a jeans and T-shirt type, but I like to stay hip.” And though “hot” is a word he uses to describe Gucci, it seems apropos to the actor himself. He has the lead role in Spike Lee’s current production, “Love and Basketball,” and film credits that include “The Mod Squad,” “Scream 2” and “In Too Deep.” He recently formed an entertainment company, BKNY, that will co-produce the movie “Who Stole the Soul,” which he co-wrote. “I’ve been writing short stories and plays since I was a kid in Brooklyn,” says Epps. “Acting has become an extension of my writing.”
