Gridlock Plan

Share

State Sen. Richard Polanco’s proposed legislation to “break up gridlock” (April 5) would seem a lot less laughable if he and the rest of the California Legislature had not just destroyed one of the few mass transit efforts that was actually working: the El Monte Busway. By voting to open the busway to two-person carpools, as opposed to the bus and three-person carpool requirement that had reigned for more than 20 years, this group of nonpublic transit users effectively created gridlock where there was none.

The great majority of this bunch has never seen the busway and has no idea how it works (or used to work), and yet they took it upon themselves to ruin the commute of thousands of Angelenos on a daily basis. Seldom have I witnessed such chutzpah or stupidity.
